THE MUSIC OF THE BIBLE REVEALED - LIVE (CD)

This CD contains an interview from NPR's Morning Edition with Bob Edwards ("Song of Songs", October 29, 1986 -- Luanna Parker, interviewer); "The Song of Ruth (Introduction and Ruth 1:1-18)" as taken from the Divine Daughters concert by ASTER, a women's ensemble in Colorado (April 5, 2003); and a concert by Chanticleer in Lone Mountain Chapel, University of San Francisco (October 5, 1985 -- Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura, artistic director; Dennis Weber, master of ceremonies; and this author, the audience member who audibly whistled in amazement after Psalm 98). The quality of the performances is mixed, but all in all the recording is well worth having.

SHOFAR (CD)

In 2004, a group of musicians in Cali, Colombia (South America), with the moral and technical support of King David's Harp, Inc., gathered together to form the vocal/instrumental ensemble SHOFAR. These musicians are dedicating themselves to learning and performing The Music of the Bible Revealed, with the long-term aim of making it known all over Latin America.

In August of 2004, SHOFAR participated in a lecture/concert given by its conductor and artistic director, Javier Mejia Calderon, at the Universidad del Valle in Cali. Unfortunately, the man responsible for recording the lecture/concert neglected to turn on the recorder until almost the very end, so only the Elegy of David aka The Bow (2 Samuel 1:19-27) was recorded. However, the vocal musicians managed to make recordings of themselves (without instrumentalists) in a studio before the actual day of performance. Though at that early stage their performances were not perfect, already the male choirs in particular showed very great potential -- possibly as the best performers of the restored biblical chant that this author has yet heard.

In tribute to SHOFAR's first efforts, King David's Harp, Inc. is offering a CD sampler of the group's recordings to date. The CD is essentially a fund-raising tool, both for King David's Harp, Inc. and for SHOFAR itself (as well as an introduction to the work of both groups). The tracks include Psalms 24, 122, 133, and 150 and the Elegy of David (the latter sung with great Latin pathos to guitar accompaniment). Visit the SHOFAR Web site periodically for news regarding its own plans to make recordings (and to distribute them in North America via King David's Harp, Inc.).

This CD-ROM contains the tracks found on the above CD sampler (as MP3 files) plus photographs of the lecture/concert provided by Javier Mejia Calderon (in JPG and PDF format).

SOUTHWEST RADIO CHURCH INTERVIEW #K491

Southwest Radio Church was one of the first Christian  organizations to announce Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura's discovery in the USA. Fifteen years after that (the exact date is unknown for the moment), this author was interviewed by Pastor Larry Baker regarding the recently published English translation of the original French book (1991).

This CD combines two radio interviews (both made over the phone) plus some musical examples taken from the Volume 1 recording (with the permission of Harmonia Mundi France).

SOUTHWEST RADIO CHURCH INTERVIEW #C250

Some time after the above interview, this author contacted Southwest Radio Church with additional information. This time Pastor Larry Spargimino granted three interviews over the phone. No musical samples were recorded (save a bit of Psalm 96, rendered vocally by the author), but many issues of exegesis which the biblical chant can address were discussed.

Both interviews by Southwest Radio Church turned out to be among the most popular in its history (if the measure of books and tapes sold by the Church afterward is any indication). Both are recommended by the author to any aurally-oriented person who wishes to understand the broader implications of this discovery for biblical exegesis and musical worship.
