RECORDINGS AND LYRIC BOOKLETS

Please have patience while this page is loading; the content is worth the wait!

N.B.: A WinZip (.zip) archive (17.9 MB) containing a PowerPoint Presentation (.ppt) and sound files (.mp3) summarizing the historical and musical background to Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura's work may be downloaded via this link.

The following table lists all the recordings to date that have been produced by Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura or under her direct or indirect supervision. They are available via Esther Lamandier's Web site and through other European sites listed below.

(N.B.: In the lists of tracks we give on this site, some summaries of the content of the biblical passages involved may differ from the summaries actually stated on the recording covers.) One album, Unaccompanied, contains the Elegy of David plus twenty-one works by other authors (see the appropriate page).

The following recordings are not part of Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura's oeuvre, but they are included on this page as additional testimony to the character of ancient music. (The third recording in the list, Ancient Echoes, includes two new renditions of Haïk-Vantoura's Priestly Blessing. The fifth recording, Music of the Prophets, contains five new renditions of Haik-Vantoura's work. The sixth includes excerpts from Haïk-Vantoura's Priestly Blessing as sung by Esther Lamandier.)

OTHER ORDERING INFORMATION

All recordings currently in print:

N.B.: Disques Alienor (France), the publisher of seven of the eight French recordings of Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura's restitutions, has shut down operations as of June 2003. Five of the seven Alienor recordings are still available via online order from the Official Web Site of Esther Lamandier (e-mail) or via other outlets overseas.

The original recording (Harmonia Mundi France) is regrettably out of print after 20 years, as is the original ensemble recording of the Song of Songs. Both are listed, however, on Alapage.com in France (see below) and apparently are still in stock there.

We are in the process of updating our PDF catalog and order form. Using the above button, you may obtain the free Adobe Acrobat Reader (if your computer does not have it already), which is necessary to read and print PDF files (including many others on this page and elsewhere in this Web site).

Other places to order recordings in Europe
(check for current availability):

Jewish Music - JMD: "the U.K.'s leading online shop for Jewish music" (see search results: "Vantoura" and "Esther Lamandier") -- recommended for English-only speakers as the place to get the recordings (save the out-of-print Volume 1 and the original Cantique des cantiques de Salomon)

Alapage.com in France now has most of the recordings of Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura's work by Mmes. Haïk-Vantoura, Lamandier and Zakai (scroll down the following pages for lists of Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura's and Esther Lamandier's recordings). The catalog as listed includes the original 1976 recording and the original ensemble recording of the Song of Songs.

LYRIC BOOKLETS

After many years, we are pleased to offer at last free online copies (in PDF format) of the Latinized Hebrew-English lyric booklets created by Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura and Esther Lamandier to accompany their early recordings. These booklets are being revised little by little, and in time we hope to offer them with updated typesetting (including Hebrew, Latinized Hebrew and English texts) and smaller file sizes. We also offer a booklet based on the original liner notes of the LP version of Musique de la Grèce antique (see above listings).

All these booklets require the free Adobe Acrobat Reader (see above left) to read and to print. Each booklet is several megabytes in size (we hope to fix this in due time), and downloading them is recommended for those with high-speed Internet access (or else a great deal of patience).
