MUSIC OF THE ANCIENT GREEKS
Pandourion Records CD PRCD1001

This CD by
De Organographia is a considerably more recent and (in a number of ways) quite different treatment of the ancient Greek material than is the recording by Atrium Musicae de Madrid. Instead of a vocal ensemble playing various instruments, there is but one vocalist (Gayle Stuwe Neuman) and two instrumentalists (Plilip Neuman and WilliamGavin) in the ensemble. The reconstructions of period instruments used (featured in the liner notes and on this Web site) are impressive in number and tone, if not as numerous or variegated as on the Atrium Musicae recording. The liner notes are informative and sufficient for their purpose, and there are actually more musical works available than on the earlier recording.

Music of the Ancient Greeks, as well as another recording by
De Organographia, Music of the Ancient Sumerians, Egyptians & Greeks, are available directly from the distributor, North Pacific Music, which also offers other recordings of early, avant-garde, classical, jazz, new age and world music. It also offers free shipping on all US and Canadian orders of any size.
