VISAGES ANTIQUES D'ISRAËL
Alienor CD AL 1092
This recording (aka La musique de la Bible révélée, Volume
4) was produced in 1999 by Mira Zakai
(e-mail), a renowned
Israeli contralto and Professor of Voice whose life and work are
summarized on her
Home Page.
This recording is even longer than Psaumes de David
(by about six minutes). The recording of the Book of Ruth is notable in that its modal structure is not the same
as that which Mme. Haïk-Vantoura originally inferred in her melody-only score Quatre
Meghillot. For example, Chapter 1, rather than sharing the sweetness which
begins Chapter 2, begins with a rather disturbing mode found in Isaiah 6 and 61, the Valley of Dry Bones in Ezekiel
37, and other piquant texts. |
