Earthlight Orchestra

All the original songs produced by John Wheeler (יוחנן רכב) through the Earthlight Orchestra electronic music project may now be purchased through CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon.com, and other outlets. The cover versions of other songs, previously available on this page, are no longer offered by Earthlight Orchestra. As of August 2015, we do offer three short albums of MP3 files, all of which feature our best song to date, "Hey, Christopher Alain".

Our logo features a simulation of the total solar eclipse which passed over Babylon on April 15, 136 BCE, as viewed from Sinus Medii on the Moon. The simulation was created by Starry Night Pro and then "buttonized" by Paint Shop Pro.

The MIDI files used by this project were created by different editions of the Finale music software package and then retuned to "just tuning" using the following freeware...

Scala (see also the Wikipedia article)  is a powerful software tool for experimentation with musical tunings, such as just intonation scales, equal and historical temperaments, microtonal and macrotonal scales, and non-Western scales. It supports scale creation, editing, comparison, analysis, storage, tuning of electronic instruments, and MIDI file generation and tuning conversion. All this is integrated into a single application with a wide variety of mathematical routines and scale creation methods. Scala is ideal for the exploration of tunings and becoming familiar with the concepts involved. In addition, a very large library of scales is freely available for Scala and can be used for analysis or music creation.
