The Meitzler Family: The Early1900's

The background on this page is based on a photo of the "Piney Woods" of Mississippi and Louisiana, taken in the early 1900's. The photo itself is found in the archives of the Crosy Arboretum, Picayune, MS., and was provided on a postcard courtesy of the Forest History Society. We believe this photo a fitting introduction to a family which has so many of its roots in this very country.

This census form from the 12th United States Census (June 1, 1900) lists the Meitzler Family in the Nicholson Precinct. Marked in yellow are all the Meitzlers listed in the above table, plus Thomas Frierson, the brother-in-law of Charles William Meitzler. (The Census enumerator incorrectly listed Cary Meitzler as "Carra", and as a daughter.)

This map shows the location of the first Meitzler home near Nicholson in Pearl River County, MS., owned by Susan Augusta Curtis Meitzler. The neighborhood where the house was found is marked in yellow.

Here is the original photo of the "Piney Woods" which was used as the basis for the background of this page. Notice the size of the pine trees compared to that of the man standing beside them.
