The Meitzlers: 2nd Generation

SUSAN AUGUSTA CURTIS MEITZLER

Charles Conrad Meitzler was the son of John and Eliza Meitzler. He was born on July 25, 1847 in New Orleans, LA. and died on November 5, 1879 in Martinville, Copiah County, MS.

Charles Conrad married Susan Augusta Curtis on August 18, 1869 in Copiah County, MS. They had six children, the names of whom are listed below.

The following information about Charles Conrad's death is taken from the Brookhaven Ledger, November 13, 1879:

"
Charles Meitzler, a mechanic residing in Martinville, Copiah County, was killed last Wednesday night and robbed of eight dollars ($8.00). He leaves a wife and several children."

Charles Conrad's and Susan Meitzler's recorded children are listed below:

John Curtis Meitzler

Sarah Jane (Williams)

Pinkney Meitzler

Charles William Meitzler

Sister Susa Meitzler

Harry Perry Meitzler

Minnie Mae (May)

Minnie Mae (Schaller)

As the above color scheme illustrates, John Curtis and Sarah Jane (Frierson) Meitzler were the ancestors of "Red Group I"; Sarah Jane and her second husband Isaac Carroll Williams, the ancestors of "Red Group II". Charles William Meitzler was the ancestor of the "White Group" Meitzlers. Minnie Mae Meitzler and her first husband, J.M. May, were the ancestors of "Blue Group I"; she and her second husband, Theodor Schaller, the ancestors of "Blue Group II". None of the other three children of Charles Conrad and Susan Meitzler had any offspring.

Ironically enough, we have several surviving photographs of Susan Augusta Curtis Meitzler, but none to date of her husband Charles Conrad Meitzler.

The undated portrait on the left (according to the engraving on the front of the card stock) was taken by "Daliet's, 517 Frenchman St., N.O., LA." (New Orleans, Louisiana).

The undated portrait on the left (according to the signature on the back of the card stock) was taken by "Miss Lou Janes, Artist, Hazelhurst, Miss.".

The undated portrait on the left has these cryptic words on the back: "Susan Augusta Buoie(?) Mme Shellow was her daughter". ("Sister" is crossed out and replaced with "daughter" in red; the original is in black ink.) In addition, the photo seems to have been cropped from a larger original, for there are the remnants of truncated words on the top of the photo. Finally, there is what appears to be an upside-down "486".
